1. The Power Point Application software can be incorporated within this work unit (as explained above).

2. Students could also research different web sites in order to find out more information about the variety of sport drinks.

3. Students could place the nutritional information on the sport drink labels onto a spreadsheet and graph the results using a pie graph. Students could then use the graphed information and the knowledge gained about the effects of these substances on the body to draw conclusions about the effectiveness, to the label, of each of the sport drink samples that they have chosen. Students then could reflect back on the scientific principle and draw some conclusions as to the effects of the substances in sport drinks have on the human body by rating their samples.

COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION -

1. A formal report for the school newsletter would be published to raise community awareness of the use of sport drinks.

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY ­

Design, make and critique their very own sports drink product.

ENGLISH:

Guided Reading Sessions­
Find text extracts based on sports drinks and sport performance, and undergo small group reading tasks based around the Guided Reading principles.

Oral Language ­
The formal oral presentations with ‘talk as performance’ as the underlying principle.

Writing ­
Write an advertisement for their sports drink creation. Included in this would be the new product’s marketing strategies

THE ARTS ­

1. Graphically design a label for the product they invented within the area of Technology.

2. Act out (radio jingle or T.V ad), the advertisement the students created within the writing sessions.
