The Tea Bag Rocket: How High Can You Go?

Equipment

Saucer

Box of Matches

Scissors

Heat Resistant mat

What To Do

1.    Using the scissors cut the string off the tea bag and remove the bag's top and bottom.

2.    Pour the tea leaves onto a saucer and heap them into a mound

3.    Open the tea bag into a rounded shape. Place it on the mound in an upright position as shown. Do not push the bag into the tea leaves.

4.    Light the bag at the top and allow it to burn all the way to the bottom.

5.    Watch what happens as the tea bag burns.

6.    Discuss what happened and why you think the tea bag behaved as it did.
