Description

Teaching Stage 2 Biology in 2018?

Biology in 2018 will be using the new SACE accredited subject outline. With some significant changes in both content and assessment requirements, this workshop will bring into focus some of these changes and provide some indication on the depth of understanding that will be needed by students. Suggestions for how to approach the new course, with useful resources, will be of particular emphasis in this workshop. Activities for teaching the new concepts will be modelled, to enable a hands-on experience for participants. The new topics of DNA and Proteins, Cells as the Basis of Life, Homeostasis and Evolution, include concepts that cover some of the latest technologies being used in Biology, which may be unfamiliar to some teachers and so these will be also be addressed. This workshop is intended to expand on the workshop given earlier in the year at the SASTA conference in April.

Key Topics:

Focus on new inclusions in the subject outline including but not limited to:

  • DNA Technologies
  • Homeostasis
  • Different models of evolution
  • Deconstruct and design
  • Science as a Human Endeavour
