Connecting South Australian Teachers to the National Science Education Community

SASTA is proud to be a member of the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA), the national body representing science teacher associations across Australia.

Through ASTA, South Australian science educators are connected to a national network of teachers, education leaders, researchers and science organisations working to strengthen science education and support student learning.

Opportunities for Teachers

ASTA provides a range of opportunities that benefit science teachers across Australia, including professional learning, awards, grants and national initiatives that celebrate excellence in science education.

One of the most significant programs managed by ASTA is the National Science Week School Grants program, which supports schools to deliver engaging science activities and events as part of Australia's annual celebration of science.

ASTA also co-hosts ConASTA, Australia's national science education conference. Held in a different state or territory each year, ConASTA brings together science educators from across the country to share ideas, learn from experts and explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Representing South Australia

SASTA is actively involved in ASTA, with representatives contributing to both the Board and wider committee structure.

This involvement ensures South Australian perspectives are represented in national discussions about science education, curriculum development and teacher support. It also provides opportunities for SASTA to contribute to advocacy initiatives and position papers that promote high-quality science education for all Australian students.
